I recently subscribed to last.fm for about 4 bucks a month. You get a few cool features that present your musical data in unique ways. One of them is a utility that combines pictures of your most listened to artists into a collage. Here you can see all the music I’ve been listening to over the last two years. There are also utilities to create timelines and tag clouds that are visually intriguing.

Can you spot which artist is which in the photo?

Above and Beyond is probably the hottest trance act on the scene right now. Every week they mix trance from all around the world, hence the name. I’ve pointed out this session in particular because it’s got a great mix of Dirty Vegas’ song Tonight. Check it out below. If you don’t want to download the whole set you can watch the YouTube video below too.

As a local music fan here in DC you can see me frequent DC9, Black Cat, Velvet Lounge, and many other venues around the city. Well I wanted to inform everyone of a CD release party for New Rock Church of Fire that’s happening at the 9:30 club on 12/27/08. So after you finish opening all your presents and have had a day or two to splurge on food and relax come support your local music.

On a side note, i just want to say that this band probably has the coolest fucking CD release party poster I’ve ever seen. I’ll let the poster do the talking.

First of all the whole band is riding some sort of wild animal with machine guns, whiskey and a meat cleaver. Oh and there’s also a fucking hawk on the guy’s arm. I don’t care who you are but that poster alone gives this band all the street cred it’ll ever need. The poster is just fucking cool.

If you guys like the art for this poster one of the band members just happens to be a comic book artist. You can check out more of his stuff at Barf Comics. I’ve had a chance to look through some of the comics and they look pretty interesting.

Ok, so here’s the deal. Go to the band’s myspace here http://www.myspace.com/nrcof and check out their music. My favorite track is Night is Silent. If you like what you hear definitely go to their show. I will be out of town so I won’t be there. At the very least tell them that poster is awesome.

Ok, with that I probably will take a long break from posting again since I’ll be in California til after christmas.

So I recently heard, after many years, the theme song to The Adventures of Pete and Pete. If anyone doesn’t remember this show, please look it up here. The band that wrote the song is called Polaris and wrote the whole soundtrack for the show. It’s actually some really good early 90′s indie rock. I’d say it’s a bit like an amercanized Stone Roses.

The title track for the show is called ‘Hey Sandy’ and I absolutely can’t get enough of it. It’s a short song but they say catchy songs tend to be sit around the 2:41 mark. Or so my friend tells me. Dopper Topper is apparently quite knowledgable about this kind of stuff.

I’ve had a sudden need to watch the series again because I used to watch it so much as a kid. I’m pretty sure I didn’t get half the jokes and I can safely say the show has contributed to my current sense of humor and personality. It’s a very random show, but it does it in such a unique way that you just can’t get enough.

If you haven’t heard the song I’m talking about here’s the intro video to The Adventures of Pete and Pete:

You can pick up the full album on Itunes here.
