A lot of people are heated over the government changing their policy on cookie usage. Most notably the ACLU. I’d like to try and clear this up for all the conspiracy theorists and paranoid people out there.

The reason they are using the “tracking” cookies and why they want to change the policy is important. Government websites are notoriously out of date and the reason they can’t take advantage of newer technologies is the policy against using persistent cookies. Now that the policy is possibly going to be changed the government plans on overhauling all the government websites to use the latest web technologies to better serve the public (you). This isn’t a big brother scheme to control your life. The only things these cookies tell the web servers are:

  • your IP address
  • any information YOU supply to the site (name, email, phone number)
  • when you visited and how long

This practice is no different than Google, Facebook, Twitter, or even this site. You can call it tearing down freedoms but it’s just a fact of modern web technology. These cookies are essential to how the web works and they enhance user experience.

Obama Wins

This is going to be a short post for now then I’m going to sleep. Obama’s speech was amazing. Actually, both speeches tonight were great. McCain’s and Obama’s alike. I really hope the nation pulls together now after this tumultuous race. I can honestly say that today I really felt proud about this country after 8 years of uncertainty. I was in downtown DC and the screaming and carrying on had me awestruck. The noise, the dancing, and cars honking all took my breath away. People were overjoyed. We were literally dancing in the streets. View full article »

1up.com recently ran an article about he uproar in Washington D.C. over the ads Bethesda Software has been running in Metro Center. I’ve seen them and they are actually very impressive. But, I’m not surprised someone would get upset about them.

This reminds me of that huge controversy over “The Day After Tomorrow” and “Independence Day” billboards that depicted very similar scenes of landmarks being destroyed.

But back then there wasn’t any controversy, because when movies do it, apparently it’s okay.

The article says, “In response to a series of Fallout 3 ads posted in the D.C. subway system, Anzalone voiced his concerns to the Washington Post in a letter to the editor. It’s his opinion that the ads — which depict a post-apocalyptic Washington, D.C. — are not only inappropriate, but that their protection is somehow unconstitutional.”

This is a good read so I recommend you digg it up and take a look.

Vote for Hope

Obama ’08 – Vote For Hope from MC Yogi on Vimeo.

A super well done video. Props to the artist.

As much as cable pundits seemed to agree that John McCain had his strongest debate yet this evening, most also saw his constant grimacing as his performance’s biggest drawback.
On Fox News, Brit Hume charitably described McCain as sporting a “peculiar” expression on his face while listening to Obama.

There have been a whole slew of these videos depicting McCain as either, “Angry” a “Zombie” or “Deer in Headlights.” Watch the video for yourself.

I have to say that I really like Joe Biden. I think someone once related to him as that off the cuff uncle who will sit you down and say, “Now look here kid, this is how it is…”

I’m glad Joe shows some back bone and character. I think being direct is a great quality in someone.
